Yamaha Piano Serial Number Atlas

Yamaha pianos that were built and designated for the USA market have been produced in 6 different factory locations.
Each location assigned serial numbers that do not correspond with pianos produced in another factory. For instance, the first set of serial numbers for pianos manufactured in Hamamatsu Japan. These serial numbers will not correspond correctly to the serial number found on a Yamaha piano built in their Thomaston, Georgia factory.

You can identify where your piano was manufactured a few ways, but the easiest way is to take note if there are any characters before the numbers. However, for whatever reason, some models that were produced outside of the Hamamatsu, Japan factory have a serial number located on the pianos plate that shows a series of numbers without a letter proceeding it. Yet, stamped on the rear of the piano in the upper left corner will be the same serial number stamped on the upper left corner with the signifying factory letter proceeding it. Confusing, I know. It's best to check behind the piano if the date serial number you look up doesn't seem correct.

If your Yamaha’s serial number does not have a letter in front of it, it was built in the Hamamatsu, Japan factory.

Pianos with the letter “T” proceeding the serial number , i.e.T294877 , were built in Yamaha’s Thomaston, Georgia factory

Pianos with the letter “U” proceeding the serial number, i.e, U186000 , were built in Yamaha’s South Haven, Michigan factory.

Pianos with the letter “H” proceeding the serial number i.e, H0105429 , were built in Yamaha’s in Hangzhou, China factory.

Pianos with the letters “YT” proceeding the serial number i.e, YT285000, were built in Yamaha’s in  Taoyuan, Taiwan factory.

Pianos with the letter “J” proceeding the serial number i.e, J2942840, were built in Yamaha’s Jakarta, Indonesia factory.

This serial number atlas is for pianos produced in Yamaha’s Thomaston, Georgia factory.

You can determine if your Yamaha piano was produced in the Thomaston factory by the letter "T" proceeding the serial number.

This serial number atlas is for pianos produced in Yamaha’s South Haven, Michigan factory.

You can determine if your Yamaha was produced in the South Haven factory by the letter "U" proceeding the serial number.

This serial number atlas is for pianos produced in Yamaha’s Hangzhou, China factory.

You can determine if your Yamaha was produced in the Hangzhou factory by the letter "H" proceeding the serial number.

This serial number atlas is meant for pianos produced in Yamaha’s Taoyuan, Taiwan factory.

You can determine if your Yamaha was produced in the Taoyuan factory by the letter "YT" proceeding the serial number.
